The Fresh Start cocktail was originally inspired by the well-known Mojito. When creating this cocktail I wanted to showcase the versatility of Silver tequila in a way everyone could enjoy. It’s a perfect marriage between Tiki and Tequila.
I use Silver Tequila in this cocktail for a couple reasons. Silver Tequila is neutral in color and has a light citrus and floral flavor profile. Also, compared to a Reposado or Añejo, Silver tequila is the cleanest expression of an agave distillate for a cocktail. For the sugar component I chose to use Falernum. Falernum is sweet syrup used in Caribbean and tropical drinks. It contains flavors of almond, ginger and Allspice. Then, lime juice is added to balance out the sweet from the Falernum. Mint is shaken into the cocktail and also used as the garnish. Like the Mojito, the Fresh Start is perfect for warm weather and enjoyed by everyone.
1 ½ oz Tequila Cabeza
¾ oz Velvet Falernum
¾ oz Lime Juice
6 Mint Leaves
Splash Soda
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker (minus the soda), fill with ice and shake vigorously. Then, double strain into a collins glass over fresh ice. Finish with a splash of soda and garnish with a mint sprig.
