Featured Classic Cocktail – Boulevardier

Boulevardier

A cousin of the Negroni, the Boulevardier simply substitutes bourbon in place of gin with slightly different portions. This cocktail is from Harry McElhone’s 1927 Barflies and Cocktails.

For years I’ve selected the Negroni cocktail as the perfect balance of bitter sweet. The Boulevardier CocktailBoulevardier is slightly more spirit forward but still achieves that balance. When making this cocktail it is important to choose a high quality bourbon because it is the predominate flavor. Similarly, both the Campari and quality of sweet vermouth are crucial to accomplishing he desired taste. When consuming this drink you should first taste the rich flavors of the bourbon and finish with the bitter sweet notes of the Campari and sweet vermouth. The Boulevardier is a rich masculine cocktail that is perfect to enjoy as winter approaches.

1 ½ oz Woodford Reserve

¾ oz Campari

¾ oz Cocchi Vermouth di Torino

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass, cover with ice and stir until well chilled. Then, strain liquid into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with an orange peel.
